Fire District Levy 2024

The proposed levy, if approved, will add $3.5 million to the district’s base budget over the next two years, ensuring the retention of 12 firefighters and paramedics currently funded by a SAFER Grant, which expires in March 2026. Without the levy, these positions may be lost, and the district may be forced to close the third staffed station, leading to longer response times and reduced service.

Levy Details:

  • Current Levy Rate: $62 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value

  • Proposed Levy Rate: $94 per $100,000 of taxable assessed value

  • Cost for Median Home: $32.77 per month

To help homeowners calculate their specific cost, the Northern Lakes Fire District website offers a levy calculator where property owners can input their assessed value to see the impact.

A common question from residents is whether impact fees should cover the cost of growth. While impact fees can be used for capital improvements like fire stations, fire engines, and equipment, they cannot be used to fund personnel such as firefighters or paramedics. This is why the proposed levy is necessary to maintain current staffing and service levels.
